CAFE standards and hybrid cars are not the only useful methods to conserve fuel. Getting to know your neighbors can also be an efficient means to this end. Not only is saying hello a nice thing to do in the sense of strengthening your community ties, it could actually save you money.
Cozying up to your neighbors can save you time and money in all sorts of ways. For instance, neighbors make great carpools. Whether it’s drop offs and pick ups at soccer or dance classes or catching a ride to work, carpooling saves you money. Not only does it save on wear and tear to your car if the carpooling group switches whose car to use every other day or week, pooling financial resources saves money on gas and tolls. Not only will carpooling save money, combining shopping trips will do this as well. By asking your neighbors if they need anything when you’re going to the store, you just may save them from getting on the road to run that errand; saving them money in gas but also reducing pollutants emitted into the air. As well, a community garden is a wonderful way to cozy up with those of your neighbors who like to grow fresh produce. A community garden will eliminate the need to do all of the work yourself. By planting a central plot and assigning chores on a rotating schedule, harvesting the crop will be both healthy and enjoyable.
By taking advantage of the power of many, individuals can save money, reduce pollutants and strengthen community relationships.
