Energy Saving Tips
Saving energy can be as simple as unplugging non-essential appliances. Easier still is to plug these appliances into an electrical strip and simply flip the switch to “off” at night or any time you will not be using the appliance for an extended period of time.
Electrical appliances, especially those that have clocks or “stand by” modes consume energy even when they are turned to the “off” position. This electrical consumption is known as “phantom loading” and is costing you money. By turning your non-essential appliances, computers and home entertainment equipment to a true “off” you actually shut down the item and prevent electrical trickling.
Although it may take a computer or television a few minutes to warm up when turning it on after being switched to a true off, this warm up period will result in less energy used. Of course, you would not want to unplug your refrigerator or freezer but most other appliances that are truly shut off will result in less energy used, less money you pay to your electrical company and less environmental impact.
