Is Your Boiler Making Your Summer Heat Up?
Now that the summer heat is upon us (okay, it’s only April but 86 degrees speaks summer to me), the cold winter is but a twinkle of a memory. Understandable that next year’s heating season is far from the forefront of our consciousness and the firing of boilers, heating fuel and pollutant emissions are put into brain storage along with snowstorms and power outages. However, not all boilers are created equal. Some boilers simply don’t go off line when the mercury glides past 55 degrees.
These are the boilers that are responsible for providing domestic hot water. That large belching cauldron in the basement is called upon to fire up to satisfy calls for hot water all summer long. As boilers are sized to provide heat to the entire building on the coldest day of the year, when the boiler fires up on an 85 degree summer day or even a 70 degree summer day, it generates a large amount of waste heat, heat that sits in the vessel and eventually dissipates up the flu.
By installing the Fuel Economizer, the computer algorithm inside this conservation device understands that the calls for hot water are easily satisfied with heat already existing in the boiler. Instead of simply firing up the entire vessel to satisfy a small call for hot water, the Fuel Economizer will hold off the firing and satisfy the call with the heat already existing in the boiler. Should the call for hot water continue, the boiler will be released to fire as usual. By holding off firing, the boiler uses less fuel and reduces its carbon impact.
The Fuel Economizer has a guaranteed 10% fuel reduction over a twelve-month period or the entire purchase price is refunded. Most payback periods are one year or less on the commercial/residential building side and less than two years on the single-family home side. As fuel prices increase, the payback period is reduced.
The Fuel Economizer can be a significant, cost-effective way to reduce your carbon footprint, reduce your fuel bill and help reduce that summer heat.
