Ever wonder why your boiler is so hot, even when it's not running? It's residual heat.

By adding patented computer technology to your boiler's old fashioned controls, the Fuel Economizer monitors your boiler's performance and adjusts its on/off cycles to match the current heating needs of your house. Utilizing residual heat is the principle behind the Fuel Economizer's technology. 

Traditional boilers are sized to provide heat to all zones of your home on the coldest day of the year, making the boiler inefficient at all other times. Standard boiler controls fire up the boiler when there is a call for heat. Once a burn cycle starts, the boiler burns until the temperature in the room is reached and the call for heat has ended. Usually, this results in residual or "waste" heat that is unused and sitting in the boiler or eventually dissipates up the flu. The traditional boiler's operation is controlled by a couple of simple on/off electro-mechanical switches. There is no "thinking" that takes place. The design has not changed in decades, and it is totally inefficient.

Installed on your existing boiler, the Fuel Economizer uses its sensors to provide it with real-time information about your home's heating needs as well as the functioning of your boiler. The Fuel Economizer uses this information to maximize the residual heat your boiler normally produces. The Fuel Economizer knows if there is enough heat in your boiler to satisfy the current call for heat, if so it will hold off the boiler from kicking on and will circulate the hot water already in the boiler. The result is a much more efficient utilization of the BTUs created, fewer on/off cycles, less overall run time and less fuel burned.

Another way to look at it is to compare your boiler's behavior to an automobile's efficiency on a highway versus in the city. The Fuel Economizer causes your boiler to run as if it is on the highway. There's less cycling, or stop and go, and more efficient use of fuel.

Does it really work? Brookhaven Labs proved it. Brookhaven National Labs is a U.S. Department of Energy Lab based in Long Island NY. The lab has a permanent staff of over 3,000 scientists and technicians. A total of six Nobel prizes have been awarded for discoveries made at the lab. One of the six major programs at the lab is Environmental and Energy Research; the other five are nuclear and high energy physics, physics and chemistry of materials, nonproliferation, neuroscience, and structural biology. This is one of the pre-eminent research facilities in the country.

Brookhaven, with a grant from NYSERDA, NY State Energy Research and Development Authority, oversaw and audited extensive testing of the Fuel Economizer. Brookhaven confirmed the efficacy of the Fuel Economizer. In addition the testing proved an additional benefit of a significant reduction, over 40%, of hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and fine particulates in oil burning installations.
