NYC Fuel Prices
The table to the left shows spot fuel prices as reported by the Energy Information Administration for New York City. Along with the residential price of number 2 and the retail price of residual oil (number 6 oil), we have included the harbor price for residual oil (number 6 oil) since there is a two month delay in reporting the retail price. Our view is that these prices are best viewed for their value as a trend. They are spot prices and do not necessarily take into consideration the size of a delivery.
Over time the spot retail price of residual (number 6) fluctuates between 20 cents and 40 cents higher than the spot harbor price. We include this information to provide a benchmark for what the current retail price may be. This, in conjunction with the trend in the spot price, can help add clarity to the price of fuels.

Note: For the monthly number 2 price, we use the price from the last week of the month. The prices are only published during the heating season which runs from October through March.
